Less than two weeks are left until the VAT registration campaign comes to the end for foreign providers of online services in Russia. In accordance with the new law foreign suppliers providing electronic services to the Russian consumers shall pay Russian VAT from January 1, 2017. To be able to fulfill this obligation such companies shall apply for the VAT registration with the Russian tax authorities.
In order to facilitate the registration process, the Federal Tax Service of Russia has developed the online service “VAT-office for an Internet company”, which allows foreign companies to obtain the VAT registration without necessity to visit physically the tax office.
As of today, 23 of the largest Internet companies from the EU, USA and South Korea have submitted their applications. In particular, the applications were received from such key industry players as Apple, Google, Microsoft, Netflix, Samsung, Bloomberg, Wargaming Group and others.
The application for the VAT registration can be submitted either in English or in Russian languages.
